PROFIT HIV Component
PROFIT is a USAID funded project being implemented in Zambia to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium scale agriculture and natural products producers and processors. PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, is providing financial support for HIV-related activities within the overall programme.
Afya Mzuri will build on existing resources within the communities, as well as initiate programmes where HIV-related activities have not previously been implemented. Afya Mzuri will adopt a household level approach to reach individuals with messages about HIV and AIDS through existing and new peer educators.
The implementation of a peer education programme is key to HIV information dissemination at the community level. Afya Mzuri's PROFIT supported programme focuses on four districts: Chama, Mkushi, Mumbwa, and Kabwe. The programme involves:
- Increasing community awareness about HIV and AIDS
- Building the capacity of programme implementers within the community
- Increasing uptake of treatment, care and support services by community members
This programme is funded through CLUSA for two years (2008-2010).
